Clinic Presenter Phil Stewart




Phil Stewart has been in love with trains since he was 5 years old. He has progressed from earning merit badges in Model Railroading and Railroading in the Boy Scouts to having a layout on tour for a National Convention.

Phil has, handled advertising and PR for 7 National conventions with his late business partner Jim Myers. He has written, produced and performed in radio, television and newspaper advertisements promoting national, regional and local train shows in addition to The Great American Train Show.

Phil is a founding and charter member of Lone Star Region's Division 8, Texas Gulf Division. He served as Division 8’s first assistant superintendent and it’s second superintendent. He has done several clinics at the club, division, regional (different regions) and national levels. He has served as a committeeman on an NMRA committee. He is a former Vice President of the San Jacinto Model Railroad Club (Houston Area). He is a former Achievement Chairman for the Lone Star Region. He has earned the Golden Spike Award, 4 Achievement awards. He will complete a 5th, Official, in June 2023 when he completes his service for the required time to qualify for Official. Phil is currently the Director for Division 8 of the Lone Star Region.

Phil is a retired Broadcasting executive and Advertising Consultant. He is a Certified Professional Tour Guide and currently owns Discover Houston Tours, a local tour company specializing in tours of Houston and southeast Texas. He and his wife have 2 adult children.



CLINIC - Louisiana Sugar Cane Railroads
1895 to 1970-75 Years of Plantation Railroading

This clinic explores narrow gauge railroading in Southern Louisiana in the early 20th century. The discussion will then focus on building a model railroad (currently under construction) based on the prototype. In addition to a historical perspective, the clinic will discuss scenery techniques of the Southern United States.
